UNOFFICIAL VISIT

In the spring of 2007 Moscow was plunged into mourning occasioned by the death of the great musician Mstislav Rostropovich which befell him at the age of 81 after a prolonged disease.

In April 2008, there again met friends and admirers of his talent who came to honour the memory of the great cellist. Taking part in the solemn ceremony were the Queen of Spain Sophia and her sister, the Greek Princess Irene, who came to Moscow on an unofficial visit. Her Majesty the Queen Sophia, Her Highness the Princess Irene, and Galina Vishnevskaya, the widow of Mstislav Rostropovich, laid flowers on his grave.

And again it was the Hotel ‘Metropol’ that they chose for their stay. In the year 2005 they came to Moscow to take part in the celebration of the golden wedding of Mstislav Rostropovich and Galina Vishnevskaya, which was celebrated in a world-famous way in the restaurant of our hotel.
